Flood: Federal Executive Council Approves N260 Billion For Rehabilitation Of East-West Road
Following the recent flooding that damaged many infrastructures, including the East-West road, the Federal Executive Council has approved N260 billion for the rehabilitation of damaged sections of the East-West Roads
The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, in a memo presented during Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting, sought to bring relief to people affected by the flooding.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity (Office of the Vice President), Laolu Akande, who briefed the media on behalf of the Minister of Works and Housing, said the approval was for a variation order for the East-West road project sections 1-4, from Warri to Port Harcourt, Eket, Oron, including Oron-Eket bypass.
According to him, with the N260 billion variation order, the total contract sum for the outstanding sections 1-4 of the East-West Road project has been increased from a sum formerly N246 billion to N506 billion.
Akande said the FEC also approved the award of contracts for the urgent repairs and special general maintenance of a few roads nationwide.
“This includes the construction of Gogora Guru Road in Yobe state, in the sum of N40 billion, with a completion time of 36 months.
“He also got approval for the rehabilitation of the 90 kilometre Buni-Gari-Gulani Road also in Yobe state in the sum of N4 billion with a completion period of 36 months.”
Akande said that approval was also given regarding urgent repairs, as well as for the reconstruction of Water Corporation Drive at Trinity Avenue, Victoria Island, Lagos, in the sum of N2 billion with a completion period of 36 months.
The Council also approved the award of a contract for the dualisation and reconstruction of the Kano to Salu section of the Kano-Kwana-Ganja-Adeja Road in Kano and Jigawa states.
Akande said that the contract for the project is N94 billion inclusive of 7.5 percent Value Added Tax and with a completion period of 24 months.
