The National Defence College (NDC), last Friday, held a pulling out ceremony for the immediate past commandant of the college, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah who just retired from the Nigerian Navy.

At a colourful ceremony held at the college premises and attended by colleagues, friends, relatives, family members as well as officials of the college, Admiral Jonah, who spent about five years at the college as commandant, told of how he joined the military after he got admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), in 1979 as a member of 16 Regular Course, and said he had a fulfilled military life as a military officer who has discharged his duties to the nation and equally rewarded.

In his 36 years as a naval officer, Admiral Jonah said he won several outstanding performance awards that eventually earned him national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) from the Federal Government.

The former commandant of the NDC said he inherited a team that can best be described as the best as they collectively impacted positively on the mission of the college in both substance and form, conforming to best practices all over the world.

Admiral Jonah, who described the college as one of the best in the world, announced that the college now serves as the ECOWAS Centre of Excellence in Strategic Level Peacekeeping Training. He also said the college 'now has in-house facilities to conduct all such courses for the United Nations (UN) African Union (AU) and ECOWAS. The facilities have also enabled us to commence courses approved by the governing board and this has brought more recognition to the college by the international agencies.'

He, however, called on the government to do everything possible to move the college to its permanent site.
