INEC Affirms Bashir Machina As Yobe North APC Senatorial Flag-Bearer

By Damilare Adeleye

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has authenticated Bashir Machina as the winner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Yobe North Senatorial District.

A certified true copy of INEC’s report from the May 28, 2022, election revealed that Mr Machina polled 289 votes out of 300 delegates, corroborating the politician’s public claim that he won the primary and legally emerged as the party's candidate.

The document which was certified by the electoral office on June 23, 2022, ignored Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President who has been making moves to hijack Mr Machina’s mandate in collusion with the party’s national chairman Abdullahi Adamu.

It would be recalled that Ahmed Lawan had contested the APC presidential ticket. He however, lost the presidential ticket to the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who eventually won the primary.

But, following the conclusion of the party's primaries, Mr Adamu, the party's chairman, had listed Mr Lawan as the candidate of the APC for Yobe North senatorial election slated for February 2023.

He claimed that a primary had secretly held in which Mr Lawan purportedly emerged winner.
