Some gunmen who attacked Jere town in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have killed a newly married groom and abducted his pregnant wife on Saturday.

The suspected terrorists also abducted four family members of a former commissioner of Poverty Alleviation in Kaduna State, Abdulrahman Ibrahim Jere.

It was learnt that the gunmen stormed the community with motorcycles and moved from house-to-house until they located the home of Jere who was reportedly to be their target.

Although, the former Commissioner was not met at home when the bandits invaded his home, they however kidnapped his wife, a baby girl, his younger sister and his wife’s sister.

An eyewitness said the bandits attacked the home of a newly married couple and attempted to abduct the bride but the groom resisted and while dragging his wife with the bandits, they shot him dead.

He also noted that there was tension in the community as youths expressed anger that despite the heavy security presence of soldiers, divisional police office and area command, the operatives failed to tackle the bandits who operated for over three hours.

In his words, “We made several calls to the various security agencies on ground and they all ignored us. This is the second major attack on our community in the last three months and we feel that the security agents stationed here are of no use to us.”

Another eyewitness also told newsmen that the community would lodge a formal protest against security agents in Jere, stating that their action portrays them as people who “are either colluding with the bandits or people who do not care about the security of the people.”

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police spokesman, ASP Mohammed Jalige, is yet to react to the incident as he did not pick his calls as at the time of filing this report.
