JOS, July 22, (THEWILL) - A team of bomb experts today diffused a bomb set up to blow up the residence of one Alhaji Shuaibu Usman at the Nasarawa Gwong area of Jos.


Smokes were said to have surrounded the building with sounds of small cracks when an alarm was raised by the soldiers patrolling the area.


Plateau State Police Commissioner Ikechukwu Aduba who made this known to newsmen in Jos said the attention of his men was called by the military task force while patrolling the area, who alerted him that a house at No. 13A Nasarawa Gwong has been rocked by explosives.


He said, "On the strength of the above information a team of experts led by ASP Abel Mbibi and in conjunction with the police tiger patrol and the army moved to the scene.


"The explosive ordinance disposal expert approached and revealed that a two story building was booby trapped with high explosives.


"Immediately, the bomb experts swung into action, de-booby trapped the building, diffused the explosive charges, recovered the same and rendered both the building and the environs bomb free."


He said the building was not blown off but had suffered signs of fire outbreak.


The commissioner said the owner of the building is currently trying to renovate the building.


The police confirmed no lives were lost and no other property was damaged. No arrest has so far been made.


CP Aduba advised the people of the area to go about their normal businesses and report to security agencies any suspicious movement around the area.
