Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South has resigned from his position in the Senate.

His resignation was due to defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under which he was elected to the Red Chamber in 2019.

He announced his resignation in two separate letters – one addressed to his Ward Chairman and the other to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, dated 24th and 26th May, 2022 respectively.

Abaribe who had withdrawn from contesting the governorship ticket of the PDP in the State, said, in a letter to his former ward chairman in the PDP that, “This development is consequent upon the shameful display of illegality, impunity and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents.”

Meanwhile, a video had subsequently emerged showing leaders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State urging Abaribe to cross over to and be its gubernatorial flag bearer.
