AHRC Wishes All Muslims A Happy Eid Al Fitr, Urges Vigilance
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC) extends its warm wishes for a happy, safe, and blessed Eid al Fitr to all Muslims. The Eid is expected to fall on Monday, May 2, 2022.
Eid al Fitr is one of two major Islamic holidays- the other being Eid al Adha. Eid al Fitr marks the end of the holiest month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Ramadan. This celebration comes after a full month of fasting, prayer, reflections, daily special religious ceremonies, and family gatherings.
The Muslim American population is estimated to be about one percent of the US population, about 3.45 million people. It is an estimate because the census does not have a question on religion. Hundreds of thousands of them, perhaps more, will be visiting Islamic centers for Eid activities. All Muslim centers will be conducting Eid mass prayers across the state of Michigan, nation and throughout the world.
For the faithful of all religions, celebrating religious holidays is a celebration of the gift of life and faith. Muslims will sustain the joy and will continue to celebrate in good spirit the Eid al Fitr holidays despite all hardships and challenges facing the US and the rest of the world.
AHRC commends federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies for their vigilance and assistance in making sure all Michiganders can celebrate their holidays freely and safely. Islamic centers and their leaders are also reminded of the need for having security plans. Ensuring the safety of worshipers is a joint responsibility of the community and the police.
AHRC continues to urge vigilance since the threat of acts of hate, violence and domestic terrorism are real. We also remind everyone that we still live in the age of the Covid pandemic and that all safety precautions urged by the CDC, state and local authorities should be followed.
“Ramadan is the month of the generosity to others, giving from what God entrusted us with as stewards,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “We wish Muslims a very happy Eid and urge generous giving to the less fortunate and to worthy causes,” added Hamad.
