The microblogging social media platform, Twitter, has confirmed that it will add new feature that will enable users to edit tweets they had posted on the space.

This development came after Elon Musk,Tesla CEO, was announced to joining Twitter board of directors.

Twitter, in its reaction to the public request of editing button, said: “Now that everyone is asking… yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year.”

In another tweet, Jay Sullivan, the company’s vice president for consumer product, stated that the edit feature had been “the most requested Twitter feature for many years.”

“Without things like time limits, controls, and transparency about what has been edited, edit could be misused to alter the record of the public conversation,” adding that. “Protecting the integrity of that public conversation is our top priority when we approach this work.”

The Twitter Founder and former CEO, Jack Dorsey had been reluctant to add the feature in the past.

When sharing his concern in 2018, Mr Dorsey said that an edit feature could let users tamper with a tweet’s meaning after it gets retweeted.

On Monday, after bringing a 9.2 per cent passive stake in the company, Elon Musk tweeted at his 80 million followers, asking whether Twitter should add an edit button of which 73.4 per cent being in support.
