President Jonathan hails Mandela at 92


President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has on behalf of the Government and People of Nigeria sent hearty congratulations to former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Dr. Nelson Mandela, and the Government and people of South Africa, as the world celebrates his 92nd birthday today.

President Jonathan described Dr. Mandela as an exemplary statesman and selfless leader, whose invaluable contributions to human endeavour continue to earn him international repute and goodwill.

The President praised Nelson Mandela's leadership vision, strength of character and noble ideals which saw him overcome the torturous struggle for peace and freedom to become the first President of post-apartheid South Africa.

President Jonathan also hailed the United Nations for marking the Nelson Mandela International Day in honour of the former South African President and his contributions to peace and freedom in South Africa and across the world.

“Nelson Mandela remains an example of selflessness and an inspiration to millions all over the world. His legacies continue to inspire people all over the world,” Jonathan stated.

He urged all to use the Nelson Mandela International Day to reflect on selfless service to humanity above personal interests, while wishing the celebrant Divine strength and guidance for the years ahead.
