Enugu 2023: Commissioner Jettisons Position, Shows interest in Governorship Race

The Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources in Enugu State, Mr Chijioke Edeoga has tendered his resignation from the State Executive Council in a bid to contest governorship position of the state in the 2023 election.

Mr Edeoga disclosed his resignation during his farewell remarks to the staff of the ministry on Wednesday.

He was also reported to have bought PDP governorship nomination form ahead of the general election.

The ex- commissioner, who is the only appointee that has resigned for governorship race, is believed to be the anointed aspirant of the governor and the power brokers of the state.

While addressing the staffers of the ministry, Mr Edeoga said his voluntary resignation was to let him pursue his political aspiration and to align himself with the provisions of the newly amended Electoral Act, 2022.

He said; “Regarding the 2023 elections, the justice of the matter is on our side. The voices of the majority of the people are properly aligned. Victory by God’s grace is assured.”

He also expressed appreciation to God for the period he overse over the affairs of the ministry from 2019 to the date of his resignation, while thanking the management and staff of the ministry for their support and cooperation during his stay with them.

Edeoga also expressed gratitude to Governor Ugwuanyi, for finding him worthy to serve under his administration as commissioner from 2015 till Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

Meanwhile, Mrs Chinwe Amadi, the permanent secretary at the ministry, expressed her adorable gratitude to God for bringing Edeoga to the ministry.

According to her, Edeoga was described as “a man of peace, loving and caring leader who understands the feelings of those under him; and can make people around him laugh even when they are not in the best of mood.”
