Federal Government Vows to Complete 2nd Niger Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in 2022

The Federal Government has stated that it will deliver the Muhammadu Buhari Bridge also known as the Second Niger Bridge and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in 2022.

Mr Babatunde Fashola(SAN) the minister of Works and Housing, made this disclosure while speaking in a weekly Ministerial Briefing, organised by the Presidential Communication Team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Mr Fashola said the earlier announced date of completion for the Second Niger Bridge was impossible due to the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown and EndSARS protests.

He added that the project was already at 91% completion stage.

Fashola further stated that 1,486 people have been directly employed for the Second Niger Bridge, on the other hand, another 8,110 indirect jobs have been created.

He also puts the cost of three major PIDF projects at N1.3 trillion of which include Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway (375km): N797 billion, Second Niger Bridge (11.59km): N206 billion and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (127km): N310 billion.

When asked about the period which the projects will be completed, Fashola stated that Lagos Ibadan Express Way and Second Niger Bridge are on course for completion in 2022 while the main Carriageway of Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano expressway is expected to complete by Q2 2023.

He added that ancillary works will be completed later.
