Human Trafficking: NAPTIP Rescues 105 Victims In Benin

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Benin Zonal Command have disclosed that it rescued 105 victims of human trafficking in various operations in 2021.

The Zonal Commander, Mr Nduka Nwannwenne, made this known on Wednesday in Benin.

He revealed that while some of the victims rescued have already been reunited with their families some have been equipped with skills to engage in their respective businesses.

Nwannwenne explained that 134 cases of human trafficking were received by the command in the period under review.

He further stated that 75 suspected traffickers were nabbed, while three human traffickers were convicted in court of law during the period, while 65 cases were still pending in courts.

The Zonal Command also noted the effectiveness of the blue bus campaign concept which aims at raising awareness on dangers of human trafficking in the zone.

In his words: “The blue bus concept is a one-stop shop for issues of human trafficking.

“With the blue bus initiative which is been done with the International Organisation on Migration (IOM), there has been increased in reported cases of human trafficking.”
