Priest's Family Killed In Fresh Jos Attack

JOS, July 17, (THEWILL) – THEWILL has gathered that armed attackers this morning raided Mazah, a village near Jos, Plateau State killing family members of a church priest including his wife, two children and a grandson. The invaders also set the Christian church ablaze.

The priest, Pastor Reverend Nuhu Dawat survived the attack.

Three other persons were killed in the early morning raid by suspected Fulani marauders in a fresh attack in the village located in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state.

The attack also left several others wounded. Our correspondent confirmed they have been taken to various hospitals in Jos for treatment.

This morning's attack is coming less than four months after the Dogo na Hauwa massacre in Jos South Local Government in which over a hundred persons including women and children were killed in a similar early morning raid of the village last March.

Today’s raid happened at about 2am when the attackers entered the village and began shooting into the air and attacked any one that came out of the home.

Those murdered also include the parents of the Councillor representing Naraguta B in Jos North Local Government Area, Kankani Jaja.

Most of the victims died from machete cuts, while a few had bullet wounds on their bodies.

The Special Task Force maintaining security in Jos said through its spokesman, Lt. Col. Kingsley Umoh that investigation into the cause of the attack and those behind it has started but no arrest has been made as at press time.

Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Gregory Yenlong has however condemned the attack.

The Fulani in Plateau State has urged the state government not be hasty in concluding that the attack was by them as there is no evidence to prove the allegation.
