NIGERIA SLIPS DOWN THE LADDER

The unimpressive outing of the Super Eagles at the just ended World Cup has continued to attract negative rating to Nigeria.

After the country was rated 27th out of the 32 teams that participated in the tournament on Tuesday, World football governing body, FIFA, has further confirmed that the team actually played beyond its expectations as Nigeria slipped to the 30th position from 21st.

West African nation, Ghana, has been ranked the second best in African football after Egypt, who moved up two places to settle at the 9th position on the world rankings. Ghana moved up nine places to grab the 23rd spot worldwide in the latest FIFA ranking.

The Black Stars were superb despite having a depleted team in the last Nations Cup in Angola and kept dazzling at the just concluded World Cup finals in South Africa. Football giant, Cameroon, disappointed with a surprising move from the 19th position to the 40th. Ivory Coast moved up one place occupying the 26th position

Brazil's reign came to an end with the latest ranking as current World Champion, Spain, snatched the number one spot. Brazil is now third after the Netherlands, who were beaten by Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday night.
