Following the untimely death of one of the suspects in police custody, youths from Ishagu in Ivo local government area of Ebonyi state have urged Nigerian Police to exhibit professionalism in their Jobs and stop being pliable in the hands of the politicians.

The Youths also demand the unconditional release of all Ishiagu youths arrested in connection with the petition and that Ebonyi State Police Command should find a means of pacifying them.

The Youths leader, Ohaneze ndi Igbo worldwide, Engr. Damian Okafor made this known in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki.

He urged the police to immediately establish contact with the immediate family and know how to manage the situation adding that the solution to the problems lies with the immediate family.

Okafor described as unfortunate the political arrest of Ishiagu Youths which led to the untimely death of one Mr Ogbonnia (the only surviving son of their family) from Ihie Ishiagu in police detention.

He recall that he was in Owerri when he received a call about the arrest of innocent Ishiagu Youths and e tried calling the Commissioner of Police who was busying his calls.

The youths leader called on the youths to remain calm over the unfortunate incident and assured the Ishiagu Youths that the nonsense must stop and requested that the death Ogbonna be viewed as a sacrificial death though too heavy a burden to bear.

"We ask the Nigerian Police to exhibit professionalism in their Jobs and stop being pliable in the hands of the politicians.

"We demand the unconditional release of all Ishiaguans arrested in connection with that petition and that Ebonyi State Police Command should find a means of pacifying them.

"We demand that the police should immediately activate a contact with the immediate family and know how to manage the situation because the solution to the problems lies with the immediate family.

"The police should not be in a hurry to burry him as we are ready to conduct autopsy on the body to determine the actual cause of the death"

Reacting, the Commissioner of police, Ebonyi state Command, CP Gauba Aliyu said that the suspect did not die in the police custody, rather he was taken to the hospital where he was said to have died.
