Goodseed Daily Devotional: Hold Your Peace

By Apostle George and Chika Amadi (Lead Pastor: Goodnews Bible Church, London )

Exodus 14:14 says“…AND YE SHALL HOLD YOUR PEACE.”

To hold your peace is to maintain a positive outlook regardless of the situation. It means to stop talking about the negative situation that surrounds you.

Why would Moses tell the children of Israel not to talk? Because if they would have talked, I am sure they would have began to talk about how impossible it was for them to get out of the situation they were in. Remember, they are facing the Red Sea and Pharaoh and his mighty army is pursuing them determined to bring them back into captivity. Sometimes when you are in the middle of a test, trial or affliction it is best to simply “Hold your peace.” When you are facing a situation like the children of Israel that seems impossible, if you cannot talk positive then simply do not talk.

PROVERBS 18:21
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

The Word of God makes it very plain concerning the power of words. The wrong words have the ability to stop the power of God from moving on your behalf. In fact, the Bible tells us, life and death are in the power of the tongue. That people are literally snared by their words.

PROVERBS 6:2
“THOU ART SNARED WITH THE WORDS OF THY MOUTH, THOU ART TAKEN WITH THE WORDS OF THY MOUTH.”
