On Freedom Fighter Nnamdi Kanu And The Place Called Nigeria!

Source: Prof. John Egbeazien Oshodi

We are watching the Nigerian Justice offices with international legal eyes. This is not a fulani or Igbo or Ishan Government but Nigerian Government. Given the international nature of this case the president Mr. Buhari should address the nation and the world on live TV.

Rule of law must prevail above everything. The Nigerian Government owns it to the people to tell us from where he was arrested without going into details and on what grounds in terms of territorial law. International press and United Nations Organizations (UNO) must get involved. We are talking about a freedom fighter despite his extreme views and approaches. There is need for a neutral judge possibly from non Northern and non Eastern states. Just for the sake of perceived neutrality. That he must be given adequate food, water and medicine and must be handed to him by his chosen hands.

His immediate DSS interviewers must be non Northerners and non Easterners. Also his transporters back and forth to court or hospital must not be from Northern or Eastern backgrounds. This is essential due to our history of ethno religious intoxication. He should have access to his international and local attorneys privately. He is legally a non Nigerian citizen, so America, Britain, Canada, France and Germany as well as UNO and ECOWAS must stay in watch. This is a freedom fighter that has uniformly charged others in Nigeria with the spirit of self determination and self preservation. I remain optimistic that the current Government now seen by the American Congress human rights commission as ethnically and religiously biased must prove otherwise. This a case of the century. He is like John Brown of pre civil war America. Kanu as a freedom fighter with nakedly extreme views which I do not subscribe to but remains a reality in the psyche of Nigerians home and abroad. So the Buhari administration which has openely and aggressively responded to his ways must now obey the rules of law internationally and locally. We are watching. The world is watching. This is the 21st century atmosphere. Let's get it right.
