Ibadan Residents Flee As Fresh Fight Claims More Lives In Gang War

Some residents of Inalende, Abebi and Oopo areas of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, are reportedly fleeing the area following fresh clashes between different gangs which led to loss of more lives early on Friday morning.

It was gathered on Friday evening that some residents of the areas started leaving their houses towards the evening time due to fear of fresh hostilities at night.

The latest gang war started on Wednesday and two persons were reportedly killed.

The gang in Oopo, which suffered losses, vowed to revenge and made good their promise Thursday night through to early Friday morning.

There was controversy on the number of persons killed in the fresh clashes.

While some claimed seven were killed others said 11 lives were lost.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adewale Osifeso, when contacted said there was crisis in the areas but said the number of casualties could not be ascertained yet.

He said investigation had begun into the clash and more policemen had been deployed to beef up security there.

The PPRO said, “The incident actually happened.However, Investigations are in top gear to establish the number of casualties and circumstances that led to the incident.

“Additional policemen have since been deployed to the scene to maintain law and order. You would be updated in due course.”
