Osibanjo Visits Ebonyi Warring Communities, Assures Of Justice To Victims.

Vce President, Yemi Osibanjo has reiterated the commitment of the Federal government to bring to book the perpetrator's of the Egedegede massacre in Ebonyi state to ensure justice for the victims and their families.

The vice President stated this while addressing the stakeholders and people of Ebonyi during his assessment tour to Egedegede and Effium communities in Ebonyi state where lots of lives have been lost to communal crisis.

Osibanjo who condemned the killings in its entirety described it as unacceptable and that they must ensure that they are prosecuted and justice done for those who lost their lives.

He said that the killings does not call for revenge no matter the pain, adding that the pain cannot be assuaged by retaliation and assured the commitment of the federal government to defend all the communities.

Osibanjo further assured that the Federal government will compensate and rehabilitate and give assistance to those communities affected by war.

He also said that it is their responsibility as government to ensure that such killings does not take place again and uged the police and other security agencies to find out facts through investigations as to fostall further occurrence.

He called on the people to exercise patience and corporate with government for peace to reign,stressing that Nigeria is better and stronger together.

"This massacre is very sad indeed and very unfortunate. I am here just not self, I am here also at the direction of Mr. President. At times when things like this happen, when people are killed, when incident like this happen, you feel particularly outraged.

"The attack of 29th March, when we look at all of these things, one of the things that have occurred to us is what do we need to do to ensure that this kind of thing does not repeat itself? What do we need to do to ensure that these things does not repeat themselves? One is to beef up security and that is very important.

"Let me assure you that we will seek justice on behalf of those who have died not just because they are Nigerians but because they are human beings and deserve justice. Anybody who watches another person killed next to him and does not feel angry and pain and does not feel that the person deserves justice, must answer to God.

Earlier, Ebonyi state governor, Chief David Umahi said thay have made all efforts to make peace between the farmers and herders in this state and by extension in South east and that they have a platform that involve even the herdsmen even in their local governance.

Umahi disclosed that as the Chief Security Officer in the state, there will be serious consequences if another attack happens in Ebonyi state because nobody will be able to hold the youths .

He commended President Mohammadu Buhari for the prompt action he has taken to visit the peace loving community adding that they were touched and encouraged by the visit.
