Adopt Ebonyi road construction system, Agbo tells FG

By Michael Jegede

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ebonyi State, Senator Anthony Agbo, has called on the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, to standardize the system of road construction in Nigeria by adopting Ebonyi State pattern of road construction as a national model.

Agbo stated that this has become not only necessary but both imperative and of urgent national importance, due to the huge financial resources that is perennially sunk into road works in the country, only to end up achieving roads that comprehensively collapse within few years of their construction.

The Senator, who represented Ebonyi North Senatorial District in the sixth Senate, averred that the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has introduced a new and revolutionary concept in civil public works in Nigeria.

He said the governor came up with the idea of Concrete Roads, which has become the standard and indeed very successful road construction model for Ebonyi State.

The ex-lawmaker regretted the fact that Nigerian public road construction, has for decades been left to the whims and caprices of greedy contractors, as well as unscrupulous and unpatriotic bureaucrats in the Federal Ministry of Works, who have continued to swindle the nation in exchange for roads that end up as national shame and embarrassment.

The solution to this national embarrassment, according to him, is to standardize the system of national road construction by adopting Governor Umahi's road model with a strong and thorough system of supervision.
