JOS, July 04, (THEWILL) - Plateau State Government says it will conduct another round of local government elections in the state in January, 2011.

The last local government election in the state held in November 2008, culminating in violence where over 600 persons lost their lives.

Plateau State Commissioner of Information Mr. Gregory Yenlong who announced this said the tenure of the present set of 17 local government chairmen elected in 2001 will expire in December this year.

He said the state government is prepared to conduct free and fair council elections this time having learnt from past mistakes.

Four of the chairmanship seats initially given to the PDP by the state electoral commission which conducted the elections, were annulled and given to other opposition parties by the court.

These include; Langtang North, Langtang South, Bokkos, and Wase local governments.
