Muddled Democracy

Watch the company you keep
and don't roll with a pig.

You may whitewash it as much as you may,
in the mud still, it shall roll.

Why bother to clean the unclean,
when its home is the swamp?

Why give your prized jewel to swine,
who will gleefully drown it in the mud?

Drain the swamp, drain the swamp,
so goes the battle-cry.

But there perambulates the pig,
thrashing about joyfully, back and forth.

Better to stand back, let nature run its course,
as pig inevitably becomes pork.

Than be drawn into a melee with a creature
whose favorite pastime is splashing mud.
