The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) observes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The Day is observed annually on November 25.

This year's United Nations theme honoring this day is "Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, and Collect." The campaign consists of 16 days (Nov. 25 to December 16) of activism, advocacy and awareness efforts against gender-based violence.

Violence against women is not limited to less developed countries. It is a global problem. However, more developed countries have been more successful in devoting the resources to fight violence against women and offer support to victims of violence.

Women and girls are more than half of human society. Violence against them is violence against the whole society. Counties that respect human rights take effective measures against violence against women.

Women's rights are human rights.
"Humanity has made major progress in defending the basic human right of women and girls to be treated as fully human," said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. "Eliminating all forms of violence against women and girl is a pre-requisite to women and girls attaining their full potential," concluded Hamad.
