Anambra Set To Host 2020/2021 Educational Icon Award

Anambra State is set to play host to the 2020/2021 Educational Icon Award, a prestigious award that recognises educational icons who have contributed immensely to the general advancement and development of the education in the state and beyond.

The Project Coordinator, Educational Icon Award, and MD/CEO, Micnet Concept International, Engr. Mike Nebo disclosed this in a press briefing with newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State Capital, during which he also noted that the firm would partner the State Government to host the award, through its Ministry of Basic Education.

According to him, the award aims at recognise, celebrate, appreciate and encourage personalities and individuals who have supported the educational sector over the years, as well as schools and institutions that have performed creditably well in both national and international examinations or competitions; while also rewarding outstanding students and pupils.

He highlighted the categories of the award to include educational philanthropy category, school category, organisation category, institution category, and the students category.

On the students category, which he said would also help to discover and harness amazing talents, he further explained that there would be writing, drawing and singing competitions for secondary school students and primary pupils in every part of the state, with a total prize of three million naira to be shared to the winners.

I also advise schools, students and pupils interested in this competition to either visit the same website, or go to Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) or Post Primary School Services Commission (PPSSC) in Awka, to pick up their forms and register," Engr. Nebo said.

He appreciated Anambra State Government, the Executive Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, and the state's Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha for buying the noble by accepting to co-host the award.

Contributing, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Broadcast Media, Mrs. Ify Aronu Okafor rated Anambra State first in educational performances in the country, and noted education is one of topmost priorities of the Governor Obiano-led Administration in the state.

While describing the award as a welcome development which will not only encourage the educational icons in the state to keep supporting and investing in education, but also reward academic excellence among the students; Mrs. Okafor further assured that the winners in all the categories will be selected based on merit.

Sharing his experience so far, a student of from Eagle Power College, Awka, Prince Chukwunemerem Ike, who is also one of the candidates taking part in the essay writing competition, described the exercise as intriguing, and called on other students to pick up their forms and join the race.

Tagged "A Day With His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano", the 2020/2021 Educational Icon Award which is its fourth edition will hold on a yet-to-be-announced date and venue, with the nominations already ongoing. The event has previously held in three states.
