*Oyigbo, again?*

By Odimegwu Onwumere

After Governor Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in the past days announced the relaxation of 24hr curfew that lasted over 2weeks following the #EndSARS protest which supposedly led to loss of lives and property across the country, normalcy has not returned to the troubled Oyigbo area of the state.

At the Express Junction of the Aba-PH expressway of Oyigbo, soldiers are fingered to be having a free day in whatever that pleases them. Residents are not allowed to pass through the Express Junction and vehicular movement is also restricted.

It is obvious that the residents still live in absolute fear as there could be traces of military unruly intimidation of residents here and there.

Just this evening, at about 6pm, Monday, Nov. 23 2020, a resident who would not like the name in print sent a text to our reporter, saying that some soldiers went through the Seaside Road and Atata Market of Oyigbo, announcing that all stalls should be closed and pedestrians should avoid the area.

The person's text read, "Good evening, sir. Two army personnel are going round from Express to small Atata market announcing that no shop should open and nobody should pass till further notice. This is happening 30mins ago."

It is obvious that the residents of Oyigbo are in more troubles with the presence of the soldiers still seen at the area. Just last week, there were media reports of the soldiers still accused of engaging in occupation of killing residents even after the relaxation of the curfew.

It is therefore expected of Governor Wike to call the soldiers to order and free the residents to go back to their normal businesses as the soldiers restricting of residents in the area has caused the state economic downspiral.
