Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has urged council chairmen in the State to shun acts capable of tarnishing the image of the State, saying; “Any chairman of local government who exhibits improper conduct capable of tarnishing the image of the government risks immediate suspension.”

According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo Lanre, Governor Oni, who gave this warning while addressing some chairmen of local governments during a meeting in his office on Friday said the chairmen as the number one citizen of their respective council areas must not be found wanting in deed and behavioural pattern.

“As council chairmen, you are the lamps who should shine for others to emulate. You are role models who should live above board and steer clear of unwholesome behaviour and conducts capable of pulling your status in the dirty water of ridicule and shame.

“Therefore, you should live above board and lead by example such that your people can be able to beat their chest and say that; our chairman is a man of honour,” Governor Oni said.

While warning the council chairmen on the consequences of their involvement in acts inimical to the peace and development of the State, Governor Oni said; “This government is a government of peace, honour and integrity.

“You are all aware of how sacrosanct we hold the concept of 'omoluabi' and I am sure that you won't want to do things that would stain your image and that of the State.

“However, I must let you know that we will not hesitate to suspend any chairman whose behaviour and conducts run contrary to the socially acceptable norm and etiquette.”
