"umahi, True Democrat, Tolerant Of Opposition Political Parties", Ebonyi Pdp Chairman.
The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Ebonyi state chapter, Bar. Onyekachi Nwebonyi has described Ebonyi state Governor, Chief David Umahi as a true Democrat who imbibes the ethos of tolerance in handling political opposition.
Nwebonyi said that his comment contradicts the insinuations in some quarters that he stated that Governor David Umahi remains tolerant to opposition Political Parties in the State.
In a statement issued in Abakaliki, the PDP Chairman further debunked a publication on the last PDP State Congress which took place at the Pa Ngele Oruta Stadium, Abakaliki.
According to him "This is evident in the fact that he appointed an opposition party chairman as a member of his cabinet, in addition to the support he has been giving to IPAC in Ebonyi State. Therefore, the public should disregard any such publication as it is false."
The statement read: "My attention has been drawn to an anonymous publication on an online platform alleging that Governor Umahi wants to set Ebonyi State on fire.
"In the short publication, the author made a rather ridiculous allusion to a statement made by the Governor at the State congress of the PDP on Saturday which was badly distorted. The governor had stated that "trouble would follow anyone who, after feeding fat from the PDP runs to another party in the wake of election to cause confusion in the hitherto peaceful state".
"The publication is obviously the handiwork of mischievous elements who relish in distortion of statements to create tension in the polity. It is intended to delude the gullible public into believing that Governor Umahi is not tolerant of opposition.
"I therefore wish to state clearly that the Governor never made such comment, and neither was the State congress held at the party's secretariat as reported in the article. The congress held at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, on Saturday, August 8, 2020.
"Again, the author wrote that a group known as Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in Diaspora made the accusation without stating the place or the name of the person who spoke for the association.
"Of course, nothing could be further from the truth, and Governor Umahi cannot join issues with faceless and cowardly miscreants. I will not join issues with such people either, but it is necessary to put the public on the know.
"Governor Umahi is a true democrat who imbibes the ethos of tolerance in handling political opposition. This is evident in the fact that he appointed an opposition party chairman as a member of his cabinet, in addition to the support he has been giving to IPAC in Ebonyi State. Therefore the public should disregard any such publication as it is false."
