August 8: Creative Imaginations

By Bassey Ekong

Your life’s creative force is real when it is the only thing that gives you satisfaction. Ecclesiastes 3:13 says, “That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil-this is the gift of God.” It is God’s desire for us to enjoy our work, but this can happen only when we are doing the right work. Merely working at a job is disheartening. Going to work is a dismal experience for many people because, day after day, they are doing something they dislike. That is not what you were created to do.

Again, Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” True success is not in what you accomplish; it is in doing what God tells you to do. That is why people who build big projects or gain great fame can be successful and depressed at the same time. Going against your purpose may be a personal issue, but it is never a private one.

You can mess up other’s lives if you aren’t supposed to be where you are, or if you’re supposed to be somewhere that you refuse to go. Remember the story of Jonah in the Bible? God told him that his purpose was to be in Nineveh to warn the people there to turn to God. Jonah’s response was, in effect, “I’m not going!” He got on a ship going to Tarshis instead.

God had purposed that Jonah would go to Nineveh even before the prophet was born. I urge you not to board the wrong ship, but to remain on course in God’s purpose. Just pray for God to reveal your purpose for His kingdom in your life. Note: Until you follow God’s desire, you’ll never be able to experience fulfillment.

Let’s pray: Father, please help me to stay on course with You. I don’t want to drift to the right or to the left; that causes confusion. I don’t want to look behind me either; there’s emptiness and regret behind. I want to continue to follow Your direction only. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
