British Govt Warns Citizens Against Traveling To Borno, Yobe, Delta, 5 Other States

The British government has issued a traveling advisory to her citizens against travelling to some Nigerian states, including Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe States, as well as riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.

The government advised her citizens against travelling within 20km of the border with Niger in Zamfara State.

Most of theses states are hot beds of banditry, kidnappings and terrorist attacks in Nigeria. Insecurity in the country has been of a major concern to Nigerians with members of the country's upper legislative house calling for the sacking of service chiefs for failing in the duty of protecting lives and properties in the country.

Britain updated the travel advisory on Thursday on its website with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) warning all British nationals against all but essential international travel, was first issued when lockdown was imposed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

ThisDay reports that British government said the advice was being kept under constant review.

“The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to: Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe States. Riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, within 20km of the border with Niger in Zamfara State,” the advisory reads.

It further stated, “The FCO advise against all but essential travel to: Bauchi, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna States, within 20 km of the state border with Kaduna and Zamfara states, in Niger State, west of the Kaduna River, Jigawa, Katsina and Kogi States, within 20 km of the border with Niger in Sokoto and Kebbi States.

“Non-riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers and Abia states.”
