As the World Celebrates Day of The African Child on the 16th of June,2020, wife of the Governor of Anambra State, and founder of the NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), Dr. Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) has called for the promotion of Safe Child Initiatives to prevent and curtail the prevalence of child abuse and molestation in the society.

Mrs Obiano stated this in a special message in Awka signed on her behalf by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Emeka Ozumba.

Mrs Obiano said that the need for steadfast advocacy and enlightenment on issues of child safety and prevention cannot be over emphasized.

In her words: "The increasing cases of sexual, emotional and physical abuse of children by paedophiles call for concerted action by all and sundry. We must lend our voices and join forces at all levels, including family, the state and the national level to fight the scourge of child molestation, especially amongst the girl-child."

Mrs Obiano argued that the general awareness of the threat among the populace will help in preventive measures and stem the prevalence of cases of rape in households and the country at large.

She acknowledged the place of the law in the fight against child abuse and molestation, stressing that the theme for the Day of African Child 2020 ' Access to Child-Friendly Justice System in Africa' is very apt and should give fillip to the struggle against the molestation and deprivation of the African child.

Mrs Obiano advised parents and guardians to adopt a posture of eternal vigilance to ensure the safety of every child. According to her " the incidence of the Covid-19 pandemic has created new challenges for everyone, and to ensure proper parenting both at home and the community we must make the necessary sacrifices to monitor the progress of our children.
