Gov Buni Sympathizes With Victims of Rainstorms Destruction in Damaturu (Photos)

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has expressed his sadness over the unfortunate loss of a life, injuries and damage caused by rain and wind storm in Damaturu Monday evening.

It will be recalled that there was heavy rainfall and strong storms in different parts of th state capital, Damaturu on Monday evening led to loss of a life and the destruction of property worth millions of naira.

A statement issued Tuesday by the Director General, Press and Media Affairs, to the Governor Malam Mamman Mohammed said the Governor prayed for the repose of the soul that was lost in the storm and, urge his family; and relations to bear irreparable loss.

He also prayed for quick recovery of those who sustained injuries The statement also added that the governor directed the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to ensure proper treatment of all those injured and assess the level of damage with a view to provide assistance to the victims.

He also directed the Yobe State Environmental Protection Agency (YSEPA) to evacuate all drainage systems within th stat capital Damaturu to ensure free flow of rainfall to curtail flooding during the rainy season.

The governor further appealed to the people to support the state government in the evacuation of the drainages while warning the people against converting the drainages into refuse dumps.

He warned against construction of structures on water ways, urging the communities to monitor and report illegal structures blocking free flow of rain water in their areas to relevant government agencies.
