NO GOVT IN OYO STATE – TINUBU

By NBF News

Former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has berated the administration of Governor Adebayo Alao Akala for failing to provide basic healthcare facilities for most of the communities in the state.

He said people must begin to ask questions on where government allocations for both local and state governments were diverted to, while also declaring that there was no government in place in the state.

The Action Congress (AC) chieftain spoke in Ibadan at the weekend at the official commissioning of N72million Baptist Cottage Hospital at Omi-Adio, a suburb of Ibadan in the Ido Local Government Area, donated by the legal icon, Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN).

He noted that people must be the cornerstone of development of any community and wondered why having walked more than 20-kilometer radius in the local government, there was no single community health centre to cater for a mother and child.

His words: 'People must be the cornerstone of development of any community. It is surprising that in a 20-kilometre radius, there is no single community health centre that can cater for a mother and child and you say you have a government? Where is the government?'

'Go round some communities here and find out whether people have access to water for domestic use. They have none. Where are the local government allocations going? People must begin to ask questions. I call on the government of Oyo State to wake up to their responsibility, otherwise, we will soon send them away. If we have been doing it in Lagos, we can do it here, there is no single local government in Lagos State that does not have a hospital.

We also have ambulances with life support, that can compete with what they have in the UK.'

Speaking further, Tinubu said 'until we begin to hold our politicians accountable, we will not be free from the shackles of poverty and oppression.'

He commended Chief Akintola (SAN) for giving his people what they have been denied for so long, 'saying there are people who are 300 times richer than you but would rather hoard their money and flaunt it at burials and other places. But you have used your own money to give life.'

'Without good health, there can be no growth and mental development for the children who are expected to change the society. Without good health, you can't enjoy good education. You have done well for your community.' Those at the event included former governor of Anambra State , Dr Chris Ngige, former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barr. Iyiola Oladokun, the President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, his predecessor , Chief Wole Olanipekun, first female Senior Advocate of Nigeria, ( SAN) Mrs Folake Solanke ,Prince Lateef Fagbemi, the Chief Judge of Oyo State ,Badejoko Adeniji, the Ekarun Olubadan,Chief Olufemi Olaifa and many others.
