Madumere Calls For Inclusion Of Traditional Rulers, Village Heads In Fight Against Covid - 19
While extolling the efforts of the Federal Government, State Governments and other relevant agencies, the former deputy governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has called for all inclusive approach in the battle against Covid - 19.
Prince Madumere's statement was issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Uche Onwuchekwa.
According to the statement, Imo ex deputy governor called on the governments and other stakeholders at the vanguard of the battle against the novel Coronavirus to seek ways to partner with the Traditional Rulers and if possible village heads.
He feared that if these critical stakeholders are not carried along, it will be almost an impossible task to instil the needed knowledge. He expressed worries over the belief of the rural dwellers that the ravaging scourge is either non existent or meant for the rich.
The statement reads: "Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere wishes to urge Federal and State governments to be more inclusive in their action plan against Covid - 19.
"There is need to co-opt the human resources at the the grassroots into what is going on. This is so because there is still so much ignorance at the rural areas. Some of them still believe that Covid -19 is either not in existent even others believe that it is meant for the rich alone.
"The issue of social distancing is where the problem is. Most of them still behave as though everything is normal. There are still handshakes, and where the face mask is used, people just hang them under the chin even while conversing with people at very close distance.
"I believe we can be more effective when we co-opt Traditional Rulers and Village heads. If nothing else, the enlightenment campaign. The truth is that our people have lost confidence in the system with some bad eggs laying very false foundation."
