Political Murder: Police Arrest former Senator Over Inyang's Murder

San Francisco, June 25, (THEWILL) – Feelers reaching THEWILL reveal that the Nigerian Police Force may have cracked the murder case of former Zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in the South-South Zone, Elder Paul Inyang, who was shot dead last Sunday at the premises of Ebenezar Anglican Church in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, during church service.


The police in Abuja on Thursday detained a former Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and governorship aspirant in the 2011 election, Senator James John Akpan Udoedehe and has declared another aspirant of the PDP in the state, Mr. Monday Akpan Utong wanted for complicity in the murder.


THEWILL gathered from police sources in Abuja that two of the gunmen involved in the slaying of Inyang alleged that Senator Udoedehe and Mr. Utong hired them for the murder.


The gunmen who were arrested were said to have been identified by someone who recognized him during the murder incident.


As at press time, the police have been unable to apprehend Mr. Utong because he went underground after he got wind of the arrest of Senator Udoedehe.


Efforts to reach Nigerian Police Force spokesman, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu for further information on the matter was unsuccessful as at press time.


Akwa Ibom State, a usually peaceful state has witnessed a couple of politically motivated kidnappings and gun attacks by assailants.


A PDP governorship aspirant in the state Mr. Ini Ekong Edonwa was shot outside his residence while his aged mother who was kidnapped during the incident. It is unclear whether she has been released.


Udonwa is presently receiving treatment in Singapore from injuries sustained during the attack.
