AC STUDENTS, NOT UNAD STUDENTS PROTESTED – EKITI GOVT.

Chief Press Secretary to Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre has described those who protested at the Governor's Office today as students of Action Congress (AC) University and not students of the State owned University of Ado-Ekiti, (UNAD).

Ojo-Lanre, who noted that he was at UNAD immediately after the protesting “students” left the governor's office, said the university students were receiving lectures as at the time the protest was going on.

“It has become pertinent that we, once again let the whole world know the devilish antics of the opposition Action Congress party in Ekiti State.

“This morning, some hoodlums came to the governor's office, saying they were protesting the hike in fees in UNAD. From information available to us, the supposed students of UNAD were actually mobilised by the AC from Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ife.

“The so-called students, who came in a bus marked Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso invaded UNAD at about 8:30 am today and tried to disrupt academic activities in the university. They were however ignored by the students, who were already in their lecture rooms, receiving lectures. Thereafter, the intruders were chased away.

“It is pertinent to point out that since the failure of the AC at the tribunal, the party and its desperate leaders have devised various means of causing instability in Ekiti State. One of such means is to organise protests and violent demonstrations under whatever guise. Today, it was rented students and we are aware that next week, it is going to be rented market women.

“We are however not bothered by this devilish plot because it will never work,” Ojo-Lanre said.

Speaking on the UNAD school fees, Ojo-Lanre said; “The increment only affects new students. What is still being paid by the old students is what they were paying before.

“Even at that, if you are protesting on behalf of UNAD students, were the students not supposed to be part of the protest? In this case, UNAD students were in their school, receiving lecture while some hoodlums, paid by the desperadoes in the AC were on the streets, protesting on their behalf.”
