Zulum lays foundation Stone for the construction of 500 housing units Valued At N5 Billion in Maiduguri

Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state has laid foundation stone for the construction of a multi billion naira new 500 Housing units in Kano-Jos and Gubio Roads of Maiduguri respectively.

He also disclosed that the housing project will cost the state government about N5 Billion and it is expected to be completed for commissioning within 8-9 months from January 2020 comprising of 400 two bedroom bungalow and one hundred one bedroom bungalow.

The governor while laying the foundation stone and unveiling the prototype design of the housing estate and building plans at Njimtilo outskirts of the Metropolis Wednesday said ” it gives me a great pleasure today as I lay the foundation for the construction of 500 housing units in our determination to reduce the gap of the housing deficits in the state.”

” The construction of the housing estates is an effort to address the housing needs of the people of the state consisting of 400 two bedroom flats and 100 one bedroom flats which is going to cost us N5 billion.

" So far we have already released the sum of N1.6 billion for the take off of the projects and the remaining ones will be paid as the project goes on”, Zulum said.

The Governor added that, ” I want to commend President Buhari and the federal government for granting approval for the construction of 10,000 housing units in the state.

" Borno State Government is also going to construct another 10,000 housing units this year to compliment the federal government and by the grace of God we are going to ensure that all Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Maiduguri are closed in 2020", Zulum said.

According to him, " In our efforts to ensure proper administration of urban land management, Borno state government has established a State Geophysical Information System Board with a view to reduce fraud in our land allocation and management system".

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Borno State Deputy Governor, Hon. Umar Usmsn Kadafur who is also the Chairman of the 20-man Housing Construction Committee said ” our 20-man committee which was constituted last year and inaugurated on 20th December 2019 swung into action by identifying two locations along Maiduguri- Jos road and Maiduguri- Gubio road."

"The Maiduguri Jos road location will consist of 300 Housing units that will comprise of 250, two bedroom flats and 50 one bedroom flats while the Gubio road location will have 150, two bedroom flats and 50 , one bedroom flats.”.

The Deputy Governor who is also the chairman of the committee added that ” the housing estate is going to have facilities and amenities like school, shopping complex, market, police outpost, mosque, clinic, play ground, housing estate office, road network and drainages"

" We also have team of engineers to ensure proper supervision and compliance of the building plans and specifications towards ensuring quality work and standard. And. very soon we will Insha Allah also gather here for the commissioning of the housing estate”, Kadafur said.

In his vote of thanks, the Vice Chairman of the Committee and also the State Commissioner of Housing, Engr Saleh Bungas thanked the governor for finding them worthy to be in the committee and assured that they will work hard to ensure that the work is carried out according to standard and specification., as well as time frame.
