The desperation of opponents of Akwa Ibom State, Goodswill Akpabio, took a deadly twist on sunday as one of his staunch supporters  was mudered in cold blood.

Pointblanknews.com sources hinted that Chief Paul Inyang, a loyal footman of Akpabio,  was gunned down in broad day light by six   gun men.

Inyang, sources disclosed, was killed while attending a church service at Ebenezer Anglican church.

Pointblanknews.com learnt that the six assassins arrived  the church at about 12 noon, called the deceased out, and shot him repeatedly.

Inyang, an assistant zonal secretary of south-south, state caucus member, and pointman for Akpabio's re-election, died on his way to the hospital.

Sources told pointblanknews.com sunday evening that a suspect is already in police custody, while others are at large.

Our sources hinted that Inyang has been a thorn in the flesh of the opposition, and was viewed as one of the pillars of Akpabio's formidable ally.

It was also gathered that initial statements by the suspect revealed that they were hired by a leading opposition member.

Pointblanknews.com sources also disclosed that Governor Akpabio had earlier sent a petition to the presidency raising fears about plans by the opposition to cause mayhem in the state, including assassination.
