By NBF News

The new national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, has been urged to see the restoration of internal democracy in the party as his priority.

PDP stakeholders operating under the aegis of Nsukka Cultural Zone Solidarity Group for Okwy Nwodo, in a brief ceremony in his honour, urged him to see the inculcation of principles of internal democracy in the party as a priority.

'We urge you to inculcate the principles of internal democracy and transparency in the party,' the group stated.

Speaking through the coordinator, Chief Ogbonnia Odo, the group said restoration of internal democracy was imperative now that the country is re-entering a critical phase of transition in which he is expected to use his leadership abilities to strategically re-position the PDP for the enormous role the party is expected to play in securing democracy, good governance and responsible political behaviour both in Nigeria and Africa.

They expressed appreciation to the PDP, especially the Board of Trustees, National Caucus and the National Executive Council (NEC) for giving their son the opportunity to serve.

The group said it believed that the choice of Nwodo was based on their appreciation of him as a dedicated nationalist, a seasoned, experienced and tested politician. In a brief remark, Prof Damian Opata described Nwodo's appointment as the greatest thing that has happened to the people of Nsukka zone.
