INEC Commissioners: Jonathan kicks out PDP members
In line with his transparency agenda, President Goodluck Jonathan has withdrawn the names of all members of the People Democratic Party (PDP), nominated as National Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Jonathan, apparently reacting also to flaks from the opposition and civil society groups, maintained that the action was necessary to instill confidence and objectivity in the electoral body.
The list of nominees , including the chairman, Attahiru Jega , is before the senate.
At the 51 st National Executice Committee (NEC), meeting of the party in Abuja the President said all the PDP members and others “ known to have been actively involved in politics”, from the list of nominees now before the senate for screening and confirmation as National Commissioners in INEC are withdrawn.
The Action Congress (AC) and some civil society groups had kicked against the inclusion of members of the PDP.
