Hoodlums Kill 3 Police Officers In Delta

Bandits armed with dangerous weapons lunched attack on a team of policemen on a stop and search duty in the Delta state capital allegedly left three dead while some sustained several degrees of injury.

The incident occurred Friday at about 9:30 along the ever busy Nnebisi road by Interbua roundabout Asaba.

According to an eyewitness account who pleaded anonymity, the hooligans emerged from Anwai road axis and attacked the policemen with cutlasse, axe and other dangerous weapons, leaving three of them dead on the spot.

The source also disclosed that the criminals dispossessed the police of a refile before escaping from the scene.

Our source revealed that one of the officers on search close to the supermarket opposite one of the new generation banks, alerted the police on duty who shot sporadically into the air to scare the armed robbers away.

Contacted, the Assistant Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chuks Orisewezie, who confirmed the attack, said no police officer died but some sustained injuries.

He assured members of the public that the miscreants would he brought to book very soon as the police has swung into action.

In another development, unconfirmed source said some police were also attacked at Jarrett area of the state.
