Osun First Lady marks birthday with free surgery for 100 indigent citizens

100 indigent residents of Osun state including children who were suffering from different health challenges that required surgical operation have been operated free of charge.

The surgical operations carried out during the medical outreach include hernia, hydroxide, breast lump, lipoma and appendix.

They were operated under the Ilerioluwa Development Initiative, a pet project of the wife of the Governor, Mrs Kafayaf Oyetola.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Oyetola commended the medical experts that did the surgery for the successful operations. She congratulated the beneficiaries and wished them quick recovery.

Oyetola said "this program is in line with the social protection mission of IOD-Initiative. We are all familiar with the saying that health is wealth. We are determined to follow this doggedly especially for the benefit of our women and children."

"Today, some of the ailments attended to are such that ordinarily should not keep our people away from care. However, the cost of attending to this ailment vis-à-vis attending to other daily needs has made many of our people to suffer treatable pain.

"This is why we have come out for this intervention. I am happy to note also that the present administration has intensified efforts at expanding the coverage of the health insurance scheme in the state.

"With great gratitude to God, all the interventions have been very successful and beneficiaries living well. I want to thank all the medical personnel who have volunteered to be part of this program. I thank you for your commitment to bringing care to the people who otherwise would not have been able to access same."

Oyetola also commended IOD-Initiative volunteers for their commitment. She prayed for excellent health for all the beneficiaries of this surgery.

The beneficiaries lauded Mrs Oyetola for organizing the medical outreach as they expressed delight that their pains have vanished.

The former Commissioner for Health who is also the Supervisor for Health in the state, Dr Rafiu Isamotu told Daily Trust that the First Lady organized the medical outreach to assist indigent people who could not afford the cost of the surgery.

The Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba AbdulRasheed Olabomi and the Akirun of Ikirun, Oba AbdulRauf Adedeji were among the traditional rulers that witnessed the medical outreach and they commended the wife of the Governor for the gesture.
