Alleged Child Prostitution In Borno Prison, Shettima Inaugurates A 10 Man Committee

As a result of alleged child prostitution and forceful abortion in Maiduguri maximum Prison by online media, Sahara Reporters, the Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima has inaugurated a 10 man committee to investigate the allegations and make their findings to the government.

While inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Maiduguri today, Governor Kashim Shettima said "in my position as the Chief Security Officer of the state and as responsible and responsive government , it behooves on us to treat allegations with the seriousness it deserves because this does not only boarder on the law but the sanctity of those immates allegedly by those who were suppose to protect them . This terribly exposes them to be vulnerable and helpless.," the governor said.

Shettima said "it was alleged by Sahara reporters that this activities and henous crime are committed by those entrusted with their care and welfare which is totally unacceptable. This potents a great danger and something need to be done to put an end to this ugly development and punish all those found culpable, no matter highly placed . "

"Any person or group of Persons found wanting will be forced to face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others, " he added.

The committee which has one week to complete the assignment has 7 terms of reference, which includes among others to identify those involved in the crime, verify the involvement or otherwise of the prison officials and make recommendations to the government.

Responding, tthe state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. Barrister Kakashehu Lawan said "thank you for finding us worthy to serve in this committee. We are going to study the terms of reference and we will do justice without fear or favour. We assuredyou that we are going to do justice to all.

He said they will immediately swing into action and make their recommendations within the stipulated time.
