The National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) has raised the alarm that President Muhammadu Buhari is using his office to champion a course of stealth jihad in Nigeria.

The Christian leaders highlighted several key areas that justified their claim and expressed fear that democratic institutions in Nigeria are being threatened by the actions of the President.

They said the President, through his actions, has supported polarisation of Nigeria into two races; the Negro (indigenous ethnic nationalities) and the Negroid (Fulani, Hausa and Kanuri), with the latter claiming supremacy over the former.

NCEF Chairman, Solomon Asemota, at a press conference, in Abuja, on Friday , cited an example of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), which they said, has become an instrument of stealth jihad.

He said, “EFCC has become the prosecuting arm of the Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI), targeted at Christians who are alleged to be guilty of theft, while treating with levity Muslims that have also been confirmed to have embezzled the state funds.

“It is an indication that EFCC is impartial in the fight against corruption. It has played double standards in, not only the fight against corruption, but staff recruitment and promotion. It has also taken series of administrative decisions that are unfavourable to Christians.

“Aside illegalities in EFCC, the President has violated some sections of the constitution by picking heads of security agencies and other critical political appointments from one section of Nigeria amongst other things.”

Meanwhile, the Christian elders have cautioned Nigerians against celebrating illegality alleged to have been committed by the President a few weeks ago, as regards the recent conferment of National Honors to late MKO Abiola and Gani Fawehinmi.

They claimed it was another way to strengthen the stealth jihad. “That was why it did not pass through the proper legal channel. However, we maintain our position that the exercise was illegal and unconstitutional.” (Daily Sun)
