OSIEC presents certificates of returns to newly elected councillors

The Osun Independent Electoral Commission has presented certificates of returns to 389 councillors that were elected during the local government election that took place in the state at the weekend.

The OSIEC Chairman Otunba Segun Oladitan presented the certificates of returns to the new councillors at the office of the commission in Osogbo, the state capital and congratulated the new councillors.

Oladitan said the exercise was unique because it is the first parliamentary election at local government level in the country.

He also noted that the election was significant and historical being over ten years that the local government election was conducted in the state.

Oladitan said the election was conducted free and fair and that the winners emerged open and under transparent process.

Out if the 389 councillors, 318 were returned unopposed while the election took place only in 71 wards.

The main opposition party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party boycotted the election because of the introduction of the parliamentary system by the state government.
