Imo Government Reinforces Effort To Realise Sam Mbakwe Airport Upgrade
In its poise to realise a regional international cargo airport, Imo Government moves to partner international airlines and other aviation infrastructure financing firms to bring to fruition its goal of making functional the international wing of Sam Mbakwe International Cargo airport, Owerri, Imo State.
The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere hinted this while fielding questions from the newsmen at the vip wing of Sam Mbakwe Airport yesterday.
Prince Madumere giving details on the progress report of the present status of Sam Mbakwe Airport, he commended Governor Okorocha for showing political will towards realising the dream, pointing out the construction of the key infrastructure at the airport is 90% near completion. "The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is committed to making the international wing of Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport functional at the earliest time possible time;" he enthused.

He commended the Federal Government for approving the upgrade of Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, which he said is not unconnected with its prospect to transform the economic status of the State, South East and other neighbouring States.
The number two citizen of the State while emphasizing on the projected value chain the airport will bring to socio-economic well being of the people when completed, added that the location of the airport is strategic considering the location of the State, which naturally makes it easily accessible to all the South Eastern States and other neighbouring States in the South South.
Speaking further, Prince Madumere said that the State Government envisions a buffer in the development of agriculture and agribusiness especially in export of exotic vegetables that grow better in the region, which he said will provide employment for the young entrepreneurs.

He revealed that he participated fully in the last International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) World Aviation Forum last week where he met most of the Aviation giants from all over the world especially experts in safety, aviation infrastructure financing firms and airlines for the purposes of partnering with the State.
He however commended Ministry of Transport led by Hon. Chibuike Amaechi and the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika for their cooperation, while urging for redoubled effort to make the cargo wing of the airport functional since it also contribute to the revenue of the country.
