The Rotary club of Osogbo Central in partnership with Vitamin Angels has trained public health care providers in Osogbo, Osun State, on how to implement nutrition services with best practice with the introduction of new eLearning solution.

Rotary club's aim was to drastically reduce preventable deaths of children in Osun State under the age of five by training public health workers to administer free vitamin A supplements and other supplements.

According to the President of the club, Mr Owolabi Ayesanmi, "Thousands of children die each year from illnesses triggered by vitamin A deficiency and Rotary club of Osogbo Central and Vitamin Angels wants to change and put an end to that.

"Many children at risk are typically raised in impoverished communities lacking access to a balanced diet and routine health care. Vitamin A deficiency can lead to complications like blindness in addition to death.

"The training course focuses on three areas: educating health care workers about the dangers of vitamin deficiencies, teaching how to safely administer liquid vitamin A capsules safely and how to identify the most vulnerable population in each country.

"In line with Rotary International area of focus (Disease prevention and treatment; Water and sanitation; Maternity and child health; Basic education and literacy; Peace and Conflict prevention/resolution; and Economics and community development), Rotary club of Osogbo central, District 9125, aims to drastically reduce preventable deaths of children in Osun State under the age of five by training public health workers to administer free vitamin A supplements, Albendazole and Women Parental Multivitamin." Ayesanmi explained.
