By Kenneth Orusi, The Nigerian Voice, Asaba

The crises between host communities and Herdsmen which have led to the killing of hundreds would soon become a thing of the past as the Delta State Commissioner of Police Mr Zanna Ibrahim inaugurated the Peace Committee on farmers/herdsmen in the state with a charge on them to promote cordial relationship.

While inaugurating the Committee Thursday, the CP noted that the Committee is constituted to promote harmonious relationship between farmers and herdsmen in the State and should act in alternative dispute resolution of conflicts between herdsmen and farmers at the conference hall of the Command Headquarters, Asaba.

He further charged the members to ensure that they pro-actively nip in the bud any tendencies that would bring about such misunderstanding between communities and Herdsmen likely to cause the breach of the peace in the State.

The CP, who is sanguine that the newly inaugurated committee will greatly help to reduce tensions arising from herdsmen/farmers’ clashes in the State, called on the members of the committee to justify their selection by the State government by working honestly and tirelessly towards realizing the reign of peace in the State.

On his part, the Chairman of the Committee who is also the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the governor, Chief Cassidy Iloba assured the CP of the unalloyed commitment and focus of the Committee towards achieving the purpose for which it was set up.
