The Special Need Children of Our Lady of Guadalupe (OLG) and Autism Centre for the first time since the existence of the foundation participated in the yearly inter-house sports competition organized by their neighboring school, LEA primary school jabi.

The inclusive educative event which took place at the LEA primary school jabi, the sport activity helped put a smile on the faces of the children that participated in the event.

‘’Dr. Doris Izuwah the director of the foundation, saidsince the idea of the extra-curricular activity was to improve the social behavior of the children with special needs, so we approach the school and tell them that we are ready, that we want to join them and we started the practice and teaching the children what is expected of them’’.

She said they were able to coup because of the therapy we given them by practicing and teaching them in our small space, they love routine and they are used to it and because since we moved here, they have seen the regular children and they are getting use to them, so when they go out to the crowd, they were not screaming or crying.

While enumerating her gratitude towards the effort and strategies that was put together to see in making the sport activity a reality. She expressed maximum satisfaction with the kid’s enthusiasm to participate in the physical activities. ‘’According to Doris, my joy known no bounds to see the Special Need Children participating in a grand style with other children’’.

Speaking at the event,Mrs. Musa who worked with the Education Resource Centre (ERC) Abuja and being also the PRO of LEA jabi primary school, she was excited in the role the children played in the sport activity. She said since my children have been in this school,it was when we have a new health teacher, which is the head master, so all this activities came up and we join hands with him to support the sport activity in the school.

Finally, the Administrative Officer of OLG Mrs. Hannah Soyinka said that one of the challenges they face with children with special needs is that their parents are in denial, they fail to acknowledge the fact that this children have a special need. So they try to convince them that being a Special Need Child is not a deformity, is not mentally drained or death sentence. They are also like normal children; they just have Special Needs which everybody can assist them with.
