PDP Chairmanship: Nwodo's Candidacy suffers setback as Jonathan favors a chairman without indictments, fraud allegation

There were indications last night that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still in a deadlock as to who takes over from disgraced former chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor.

Pointblanknews.com learnt that President Goodluck Jonathan is insisting the party should settle for a chairman with no baggage so that the party is not faced with another embarrassment where another chairman would be forced to resign.

Pointblanknews.com learnt Friday night that it isw straight fight between former National Seceretary, Okwesileze Nwodo, and ex National Vice Chairman, Nze Chukwu Ozichukwu.

It was further learnt that those against Nwodo, are wary because if he is made chairman, he could be prone to being held hostage because they could continue to hunt him with his past. Said our source” they don't want a repeat of the Ogbulafor saga, if Nwodo goes into the party secretariat with the ID scam baggage, it may be used against him soon, and this could be déjà vu”

According to our source, “ the president wants the party to search for candidates without indictments , without any allegation of fraud, no matter how nebulous the allegations may seem..He just wants the south east to present a credible guy.”

The likes Of Pius Anyim, Ike Nwachuku, Sam Egwu, and Mao Ohuabunwan have been knocked off the list for sundry reasons.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that three governors from the south east led by Enugu Governor, Sulllivan Chime met with President Jonathan Friday night in Abuja to brainstorm over Ogbulafor's successor. It was however not clear if Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo backed Ozichukwu.

But sources close to the meeting hinted that while Chime and Martin Elech of Ebonyin wanted Nwodo, Jonathan was not very comfortable with choice considering his dossier. According to our source, the two major stumbling blocks are  the $213million National Indentity card scam, and the fact that the Deputy Senate President is from , Enugu State as Nwodo. He was charged alongside Sunday Afolabi, Hussein Akwanga, and others.

Even though the governors argued that Nwodo was not indicted, the other flank argued that the case was struck out  for want of diligent prosecution but was not dismissed.
