Chairman, Kokodiagbene Community, Warri South-West local government area of Delta state, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, has berated Delta state government under Ifeanyi Okowa, for allegedly breaking its promise to the riverine community.

Speaking at the inauguration of Modern Examination and Science Laboratory facilities built by the Abeam-Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation (EGCDF), powered by Chevron Nigeria Limited, Comrade Mulade said the state government reneged on its promise to build male and female hostels to support the only boarding school in the riverine area.

“Let me also use this medium to call on the Delta state government to be alive to its responsibilities. If we must express our honest view, the truth remains that the state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has reneged on his promise during the state Security Council meeting, where he pledged to build male and female hostels to support the only boarding school in the entire riverine communities in the area.

“He has also failed to stand by his previous promise to provide the needed facilities in the school. Today, however, is not a day to play the blame game. We will be doing our community a great injustice if I fail to ask the state government, as a matter of urgency, to do the needful in our community. In particular, it is our wish as a community that the following facilities be provided by the state government.

“A concrete jetty for the school to enable the about 200 students we have in the school come in and leave appropriately, brick fence round the school to ensure security for the students, provision of potable water for the students”, he said.

The community leader commended Chevron and EGCDF for providing the facilities, saying that Kokodiagbene people placed high premium on education and was happy with the oil multinationals for the expansion of the facilities at the community’s model school.

“We cannot commend EGCDF and Chevron enough for their large hearts; their role in ensuring that our young people receive the best of education cannot be over-emphasized.

“Right from the inception of the joint venture GMoU, we have had reasons to rejoice over the development and progress we have been witnessing. We wish to use this opportunity to assure both organizations that we will not relent in our efforts to maintain conducive environment for the operation of Chevron Nigeria Limited,” he asserted.
